This reboot of the 1988 Child’s Play hasn’t happened out of nowhere. The murderous kid’s doll Chucky has sliced and diced though six sequels since then. As the moral panic around the original died down so did the quality of the films but this start from scratch is really good. It’s got a smart update of the premise – Chucky is now an internet-of-things device and more Andy’s defender than tormentor – and is an all-round smart, snappy horror movie. Plus it’s got Mark Hamill as Chucky’s voice. Has he been up to anything? Probably not.
