Just 24 hours before New Order destroy the stage at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, we submit for your pleasure this biopic of Factory Records founder Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan) and the Manchester music scene he had a hand in. From Joy Division to the The Haçienda and Happy Mondays (aka Madchester, ecstasy and raves). Mixing archival footage with dramatisation, under-recognised director Michael Winterbottom’s film is much better than the usual dreck music fans have to put up with. Hell, you don’t even have to like the bands to enjoy this. But you do like them, we know you already do.
