With the Marvel Cinematic Universe being so relentlessly boring and prescribed, the DC universe is seeming more interesting. Sure it mostly stinks, but it’s shaking its hips and seeing what fits. Like maybe the beloved Harley Quinn getting a team together and ripping sack all over Gotham. Plus, the MCU has put one co-directing credit and two co-writing credits for women on the board in 23 films. Birds of Prey is written, directed and produced by women with a majority-female cast and it’s the DCEU’s eighth film. And it’s got Rosie Perez.
