LGBTQ people don’t disappear once they’re too old to be cast in sitcoms. But they do experience more isolation and loneliness than their straight peers, and they can even conceal their sexual or gender identity when accessing aged-care services – effectively going back into the closet. Melbourne’s Coming Back Out Ball says fie to that and throws an all-out hootenanny for LGBTQ old-timers in the Melbourne Town Hall. This documentary tells the attendees’ stories, and we’ve got icepacks in the choc-top freezer for any hearts that warm to life-threatening levels.
