The Shawshank Redemption made less than a million dollars its opening weekend. But is its initial failure such a surprise? Speaking in the broadest, most stereotypical terms possible, it’s a movie about men with the emotional dynamics of a film made for women. Nowadays, it’s a blue-ribbon classic, the very definition of a film you’ll always watch. We guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy watching, or get busy … not watching, we guess?
